88: TTU | Phanatik Leaves Christianity & Lament as Worship

We love being positive on The Substance but we had some heavy thing on our hearts that we cover on this week's show. Longtime Christian rapper Phanatik (Brady Goodwin Jr.) recently has denounced the faith and we wanted to both look at his specific situation as well as consider the group of former leaders who have publicly left the faith over the last several years and see what we can learn from it and how we can best respond. That topic leads unfortunately well into our second one, Christian lament. It's something people are talking about a little more now (especially on social media, in response to unending injustices), but it's also something that may traditions are not particularly strong on. If lament has been a regular, healthy part of your religious tradition or personal piety, we would love to hear from you!
