98: Reflects | Abuse, Cover Up, and Accountability in the Church
Let the record show that Trevor is out this week because he was attending a John Mayer show (featuring previous Substance Shoutout recipient Yebba) and not all the bad guesses that Philip & Vincent came up with.
We thought that we'd maybe do a Topic Toss Up show when we started recording but it quickly became apparent that we'd be spending the whole episode on the most recent Julie Roys article about the abuse and cover ups at John MacArthur's church, Grace Community Church. To be clear, while we believe that the testimonies, documents, and facts show that John MacArthur and GCC both handled and are currently handling this in an extremely inappropriate, harmful, and ultimately ungodly manner, our goal is not to simply target and "take down" their character or ministry. Hopefully, shining a light on such horrific things will be a catalyst to humility and accountability and eventual repentance, from JMac & GCC as well as untold numbers of other churches with similar underlying problems that lead to similar devastating situations.
